Summit The next Women's Bar Leadership Summit, Transforming Law, Transforming Lives, will be held Friday, August 6, 2010 in San Francisco at Golden Gate University School of Law. An impressive list of speakers will address the need for women lawyers to lead the legal profession and society in the future. The importance of taking small steps each day, individually and collectively, to make dramatic changes in society will be the central theme for our program. This year’s Summit is co-sponsored by Golden Gate University School of Law and will be held at the Law School, located at 536 Mission. The keynote speaker is Golden Gate's Dean Dru Ramey, who formerly served as the Executive Director for the National Association of Women Judges. Dean Ramey has lived her passion-- “Access to Justice”-- in a career marked by bar association leadership and extraordinary success. Three panels will focus on transforming lives and the law. Our first panel addresses transforming the community and will have three outstanding panelists: University of San Francisco Professor and Clinical Director Sharon Meadows, Alameda County District Attorney and California Women Lawyers President Nancy O’Malley, and Executive Coach Amy Green. Our second panel will feature leading in-house lawyers discussing how corporate law has changed with the upheaval in the economy. Speakers will be announced when all have been confirmed. Our third panel will focus on women lawyers’ roles in addressing challenges in the legal profession. Speakers include Linda Chanow, from the University of Texas and one of the architects of the “Austin Manifesto,” Jessie Kornberg, Executive Director of Ms. JD, and Patricia Gillette, the founder of the Opt-In Project. During the Best Practices program, attendees will share their groups' successes over the past year. NCWBA will also be pleased to honor its members with awards for Public Service and Outstanding Member Programs. The Summit will conclude with a reception hosted by Perkins Coie, located at the Embarcadero, with views of San Francisco Bay and a great opportunity to celebrate the success of NCWBA’s members. The 2010 Summit will provide attendees with the opportunity to network with Bar leaders throughout the nation, to be inspired by the vision of the terrific speakers and to develop action plans to transform their own communities. Anyone interested in sponsoring or attending the NCWBA Annual Summit should contact the Summit’s co-chairs Karen Goodman or Belynda Reck or NCWBA’s Executive Director Diane Rynerson.
